The Step-by-Step Path
How to Become a Foster Parent in Texas.
While the timeline varies for every family, most Houston caregivers can complete their licensing in 4 to 6 months. Here is how we get there together:
The Initial Connection (Day 1)
Reach out via our Inquiry Form or call our Houston office. We’ll have a brief conversation to answer your immediate questions and schedule your orientation.
Orientation & Documentation (Weeks 1-2)
Attend a virtual or in-person orientation to learn about the different types of care (Foster, Kinship, and Respite). You'll begin the "paperwork" phase, including background checks and application forms.
Professional Training (Weeks 3-10)
Complete the required trauma-informed training hours. Our curriculum focuses on giving you practical tools to nurture children who have experienced loss, ensuring you feel confident before your first placement.
The Home Study & Inspection (Weeks 10-16)
A care coordinator will visit your home to conduct interviews and ensure your environment meets Texas Minimum Standards. This is a collaborative process—we are here to help you pass!
Verification & Matching (Week 17 | 120 Days)
Once licensed, you are officially a "Verified Foster Home." We then work closely with you to find a child or sibling group that is the right match for your family’s dynamic.
